GMAT: Graduate Management Admission Tests

The GMAT is a computer based test, in mathematics and the English language for measuring aptitude to succeed academically in the study of business and management. Most German business schools want applicants to have a GMAT score in order to evaluate their qualifications for advanced study in business and management. The GMAT is conducted entirely in English.


The Graduate Management Admissions Test is a four hour test and consists of four sections: the Analytical Writing Assessment, Quantitative, Verbal, and Integrated Reasoning sections.
  • Analytical Writing Assessment: It includes an essay on an argument.
    Duration: 30 minutes

  • Integrated Reasoning: It includes 12 questions based on Multi-Source Reasoning, Table Analysis, Two-Part Analysis and Graphical Interpretation respectively.
    Duration: 30 minutes

  • Quantitative: It comprises of 37 questions based on problem solving and data sufficiency.
    Duration: 75 minutes

  • Verbal: It comprises of total 41 questions that are based on critical reasoning, sentence correction and reading comprehension.
    Duration: 75 minutes

The GMAT fee varies from year to year. Check the official website for payment details and there is an additional fee being charged for rescheduling and cancellation of GMAT appointment, or for additional report scores. All payments for GMAT must be addressed to - Pearson-VUE-GMAT.

Scoring and Results

The total score for GMAT exam is reported on a scale of 200-800 and is based on performance on the Quantitative and Verbal sections. Also, there are separate scores for all four sections:
  • Integrated Reasoning (IR) – Scored on a scale of 1-8
  • Verbal Section – Scored on the scale of 0-60
  • Quantitative Section – Scored on the scale of 0-60
  • Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA) – Scored on the scale of 0-6
The GMAT score is valid for five years.
