Admission to Bachelor's Degree for German Students
Under Graduate degree studies leads to the award of a bachelor's degree (after 3 or 4 years of study), i.e. B.A, B.Sc., B. of engineering etc. Undergraduate programmes have duration of either six to eight semesters or 3 to 4 years. A bachelor's degree is the base university qualification.
Entrance/Test Requirements
Entry into any undergraduate degree course of studies in Germany is highly competitive. The most important prerequisite is English or German language proficiency. At all German universities, English or German is the language of instruction. An applicant has to provide evidence of proficiency in the English or German language.
Other Requirements
Successful completion of the international equivalent of German secondary education (Year 12). Most German universities require a minimum of 12 years of formal secondary education for admission to bachelor courses.
Each Education provider will have different entrance requirements such as prior knowledge in certain subject, work or volunteer experience, extracurricular involvement, portfolio, Official academic transcripts, test or interview. Prerequisite subjects differ from course to course.
Duration
The duration of bachelor's degree programme is generally three or four years full-time study or part-time equivalent.
Academic Calendar
The academic calendar at German universities runs from October to July and is divided into two semesters. There are intakes for winter and summer semesters, the winter semester starts in October and the summer semester starts in April. Usually the deadline for the winter semester is the 15th of July and for the summer semester it is the 15th of January.
Admission Procedure
The admission process involves following steps:
1.Complete the application either online/offline. In the form, fill the following sections and submit:
- Personal details
- Academic history
- Supplement Information
- Course chosen
2.Submit the supporting documents such as attested official transcripts from all high school coursework, letters of recommendation, reference/personal statement, extracurricular involvement or voluntary work experience and covering letter.
3.If the application is successful, the applicant will receive “Acceptance Letter”. On receiving this, you need to pay a percentage of the fees within a specified time period, to confirm your admission and sign and send the same to the university as a sign of confirmation. During enrollment, you must carry copies of the acceptance letter, study/work permit and any other details that are mandatory for admission. The payment of fees varies according to the university you have chosen.
