1. Shortlist the university & course from databases such as www.daad.de or www.hrk.de
2. Make a list of all requirements & deadlines. Take the required tests.
3. Fill out the application either online/offline
4. Apply for scholarship
5. Documentation: send the application in advance with the necessary documentation.
- You will need to prepare supporting documentation to send with your application. The documents vary depending on the course, provider, province and qualification you're studying for.Most significant being:
- Academic records: includes scores, GPA and official certificates.
- Attested transcripts, such as, semester mark sheets, transfer certificate, awards of distinction, technical paper presentation, project work, special courses relevant to the field of study undertaken, letters of appreciation / achievement if any, special skills and proof of leadership qualities
- Bachelors or master's degree certificates/provisional certificates.
- Language proficiency certificates and scores.
- Standardized test scores, i.e. GMAT, GRE etc.
- Work history (for postgraduate and doctorate programs)
- Covering letter or essay justifying why you should be given admission and statement of purpose.
- Recommendation letters from university staff / corporate executive who has supervised your work.
- Certificates or documents which verify previous study or work experience
6. Follow-up: with course coordinator / administrator to cross verify if the application has reached.
7. Arrange for financial support. Apply for educational loan if needed. The following costs need to be covered: tuition fee, traveling expenditure and study material costs.
8. If the application is successful, you will receive an ‘acceptance letter. On receiving this, you need to pay partial fees within a stipulated time period, to confirm your admission, sign and send the letter back to the university.. The acceptance letter is a contract between you and the institution. The acceptance letter serves as a contract and is very important – if you don’t start your course, or finish your course, this contract will determine if you will get a refund.
9. Reserve accommodation in the student residences or hostels.
10. Apply for a student visa: All international students are required to have visa. They can refer to the German consulates website. Student Visa Requirements To apply for a student visa students most have:
- Original passport with two passport size photographs
- Academic transcripts
- Copy of a school leaving certificate
- Proof of your proficiency in the German language or an intensive language course of twenty hours a week in Germany.

- Admission letter or acceptance letter.
11. Carry your passport and visa, address/contact details, and admission letter.
